About Community Bank.

Community Bank is a Department of Defense (DoD) owned bank provided by the Military Services to support authorized customer and official DoD banking needs. The bank is operated through a contract between the DoD and a commercial financial institution. The current contractor is Bank of America, N.A. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service, in coordination with the Military Service banking representatives, is responsible for the oversight of Community Bank.

What are the requirements to open a Community Bank account?

To be eligible for full banking services at Community Bank, you must meet at least one of the requirements below:

  • Active duty U.S. Military, stationed in a country serviced by Community Bank
  • A DOD civilian employee who is a U.S. citizen, residing in a country serviced by Community Bank
  • A U.S. citizen who is an employee of all other U.S. Government departments, agencies, and Non–appropriated Fund Instrumentalities carrying on functions on a DOD installation in a country serviced by Community Bank
  • An authorized family member of such military or civilian employee listed above

In addition, DOD Component Commands may approve banking services for other individuals when they qualify for individual logistic support under regulations of the appropriate military service which is not precluded by Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), other intergovernmental agreements, or hosting country or local law.

How do I open a Community Bank account?

Community Bank accounts must be opened in person due to Department of Defense requirements regarding eligibility. To find a location nearest you, use the "Banking Center Locator" at the top of this page.

Are Community Bank accounts in U.S. Dollars or in foreign currencies?

Community Bank accounts are in U.S. Dollars except for Sterling Services Accounts which are in Pound Sterling. ATM Cards can be utilized to obtain local currencies where applicable. Local currencies and checks can also be purchased at your Community Bank banking center.

What types of checking accounts are offered by Community Bank?

Checking accounts include Regular Checking, Interest Bearing Checking. Sterling Services Accounts are available in the UK offering Pound Sterling Accounts. For more information on all products, contact your Community Bank representative.

Are Savings Accounts offered by Community Bank?

Savings Accounts are available through Community Bank offering competitive interest rates with interest compounded and credited monthly. For more information on all products, contact your Community Bank representative.

Does Community Bank offer Certificates of Deposit (CDs)?

Community Bank Certificates of Deposit pay a higher interest rate than regular savings accounts and interest bearing checking accounts. You can choose from a variety of terms and annual percentage yields. For more information on all products, contact your Community Bank representative.

What types of Overdraft Protection does Community Bank offer?

Overdraft Protection can be linked to your Regular Checking or Interest Bearing Checking to provide you extra protection against overdrafts or returned checks. A Line of Credit is a revolving line of credit linked to your Regular Checking or Interest Bearing Checking to provide overdraft protection when needed. Credit is subject to approval. Does Community Bank offer Online Banking and Bill Payment?

Yes.Online Banking with FREE U.S. domestic bill payment is available to Community Bank customers. For more information, visit our Online Banking page. Can my local bills be paid automatically?

You can request that your rent and other regular local bills, such as utility and telephone bills, be paid from your USD Checking Account by contacting your local Community Bank banking center representative to find out about availability in your location.

Does Community Bank provide ATM Cards?

Yes. You may choose to receive a Community Bank ATM Card to access your account through Community Bank ATMs or thousands of AFFN® or CIRRUS® network locations around the world. You may also use your Community Bank ATM card at some point–of–sale terminals. Contact your Community Bank representative for more information.

Do I need to be a Community Bank accountholder to buy Foreign Currency?

No, but you must meet Military authorization guidelines to utilize Community Bank's services. Approved Military authorization includes: individuals with an active duty U.S. Military ID, an active DOD Civilian ID, an approved active U.S. Government Employee ID or their immediate family members. How can I get my account information when the local banking center is closed?

Community Bank offers several ways to get your account information when your local banking center is closed.

  • With Community Bank Online Banking, you can access your accounts from your computer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Or with our Mobile Banking service, you can obtain account balance and history information at the touch of a finger on your mobile device
  • Additionally, Interactive Banking / Bank by Phone gives you access to your accounts from almost anywhere, anytime. Contact your local Community Bank to establish your PIN (Personal Identification Number) to get started
I recently tried to use Interactive Banking / Bank by Phone to get information about my account, I was asked for my PIN (Personal Identification Number). I am not sure I have one. How can I get one, or verify that I have one?

How can I get information about loans?

Contact your Community Bank to find out about the various financing options available for new/used cars and motorcycles, Signature loans and/or CD secured loans. See our Loan Products page for additional information.

How can I place a stop payment on a check?

Timing is important in stop payment situations. Contact your Community Bank banking center or Customer Service representative to place a stop payment order during normal local banking hours.

How do I set up direct deposit?

You can set up your Government Military or Civilian payroll check to be automatically deposited to your Community Bank account through Government Payroll or by contacting your Community Bank representative. You can set up your civilian company payroll check to be automatically deposited as well.

Contact your civilian employer for their procedures to establish direct deposit from their systems. For additional information, contact your local Community Bank banking center representative.

My overseas assignment has changed and I must relocate to another country, does this impact my accounts?

Due to U.S. governmental regulations when your assignment requires relocation to another country, depending on the country location, you may need to close your existing Community Bank account and open another Community Bank account. Can I maintain my Community Bank account when I'm reassigned stateside?

Due to U.S. governmental regulations when being permanently assigned stateside, you must close your Community Bank accounts and establish banking relationships with another financial institution. For more information, contact your Community Bank banking center representative.

How do I report my Debit card lost or stolen?

If your Community Bank Debit or ATM card is lost or stolen, if you notice unauthorized transactions, or are having difficulty completing a transaction, immediately contact your local banking center or call Customer Service at 00-800-2265-3279 (Europe), 1-800-239-9427 (U.S. and all other locations), DSN: (314) 546-1892:

  • Select option 6 from the main menu
    • Select option 1 from the submenu to report a card lost or stolen
    • Select option 2 from the submenu if you notice unauthorized transactions or are experiencing difficulty completing a transaction
